Create a free Google Cloud project
Go to console.cloud.google.com → New Project → name it "CleanCancel".

Enable Gmail API
In your project → APIs & Services → Enable APIs → search "Gmail API" → Enable.

Create OAuth credentials
APIs & Services → Credentials → Create Credentials → OAuth client ID → Web Application.
Add your site URL (or http://localhost for testing) to Authorised JavaScript Origins.

Paste your Client ID below
Copy the Client ID from step 3 and paste it here.

Connect your Microsoft account (Outlook, Hotmail, Live) to scan for subscription emails. Works the same as Gmail — read-only access to billing emails only.

Register a free Azure app
Go to portal.azure.com → Azure Active Directory → App registrations → New registration. Set redirect URI to your site URL (or http://localhost).

Add Mail.Read permission
In your app → API Permissions → Add permission → Microsoft Graph → Delegated → Mail.Read. Grant admin consent.

Copy your Application (client) ID
Found on the Overview page of your app registration.

Set up EmailJS so CleanCancel can send verification codes and password reset emails directly from the browser — no backend needed.

Create a free EmailJS account
Sign up at emailjs.com — free plan sends 200 emails/month.

Add an email service
Email Services → Add Service → choose Gmail or Outlook → connect your account → copy the Service ID.

Create two email templates
Template 1 — Verification: Subject: "Your CleanCancel code" · Body: "Hi {{name}}, your verification code is: {{code}}"
Template 2 — Reset: Subject: "Reset your CleanCancel password" · Body: "Your reset code is: {{code}}"
Copy both Template IDs.

Find your subscriptions

Upload a bank or card statement and CleanCancel scans it for subscriptions — right here on your device. We do the finding, you just confirm.

  1. Open your banking app or online banking.
  2. Download a recent statement as a CSV file (look for "Export" or "Download transactions").
  3. Choose that file below.
Not sure how to download your statement? ▾

Every bank names it a bit differently — look for Statements, Export, or Download transactions, then choose CSV. Common UK banks:

  • Monzo: Account → Statements → Export → CSV
  • Starling: Account → Statements → Export → CSV
  • Revolut: Account → Statement → Excel/CSV (pick a date range)
  • Barclays: Online banking → your account → Download/Export → CSV
  • Lloyds / Halifax / Bank of Scotland: Internet banking → account → Download → CSV
  • HSBC / First Direct: Online banking → account → Download → CSV
  • NatWest / RBS: Online banking → account → Download transactions → CSV
  • Santander: Online banking → account → Download → CSV
  • Nationwide: Internet Bank → account → Statements → Download

A statement covering the last 1–3 months works best. Pick CSV — if your bank only offers Excel, open the file and choose File → Save As → CSV.
